Importunate

The widow was persistent in the presence of the unjust judge.

Socially labeled as low income, despite being fiscally disciplined and creditworthy, Daniel is finding it difficult to secure housing in upwardly mobile low poverty communities. Daniel’s disability income and part-time employment have been deemed insufficient. Daniel thought that she would finally find desirable housing in a desirable community by possessing a Housing Choice Voucher. In Daniel’s search, she noted that although her Voucher amount can cover required rent, for a one-bedroom unit, in some upwardly mobile communities, it is her income that comes into question. From Daniel’s recent apartment hunting experiences, she has learned that rental agencies and landlords require incomes equal to 2.5 – 3 times the rental amount. There are few exceptions for individuals possessing Housing Choice Vouchers, according to Daniel. She expressed, The only communities accepting Housing Choice Vouchers without 2.5 to 3 times the rental amount in monthly income are communities very similar to the community where she presently lives. “Why go from the frying pan to the fire?” Daniel goes on to say, “Regardless of the dependability of the Housing Choice Voucher to follow through with monthly payments, I feel stuck.” Daniel equates it to the Importunate Widow going before the unjust judge, with two-pence and her integrity. “It is frustrating desiring change and change is dependent on a system beyond your control.”
